Emma met her One True Love, Jesse, in high school. They had the perfect life together, but then Jesse’s helicopter goes missing, and he’s presumed dead. Emma goes back home to grieve when she reconnects with her old friend, Sam. Years later, Sam and Emma are engaged, and she’s finally moving forward… until Jesse is found alive. Emma now has a fiancé and a husband. The question is, how will she choose?

Wow, this book rocked me. The plot was really intriguing, but Taylor Jenkins Reid’s writing really solidified this as a favorite of mine. I really enjoyed the backstory of how Emma met Jesse and Sam. During those chapters, I felt like I was reading a YA contemporary romance–which I loved. The book is paced well, giving you the major events of character development and then jumping forward to the present. There was never a point when I thought it was either too slow or I had missed something.

I found the book to be very emotional. The descriptions about Emma’s struggle to choose really hit me. More surprising was how Sam and Jesse affected me. Both wanted to be loved. Both didn’t want to be left behind. Both are stuck in limbo as Emma sorts out her own feelings. The feelings of wondering if giving your all is enough is one of those scary moments I think we all have dealt with.

Lastly, I loved Emma and her character development. One of the major themes is how people evolve over time. Witnessing Emma not only mature, but become aware of the woman she has become is really moving. I definitely teared up for the last several chapters watching her grow more confident in herself and let go of things she loves.

This was my third TJR book, and I can confidently say I absolutely love her writing. One True Loves was unlike her other 2 I read and still amazing. I definitely recommend!
